Aonix expands its mission-critical offerings by acquiring the PERC platform from NewMonics
Aug 04, 2003 - 13:00 PM
Aonix, an independent global company delivering complete solutions for safety- and mission-critical applications, announced today the purchase of the PERC platform and development tools from NewMonics, a Tucson, AZ-based company, specializing in mission-critical network infrastructure and telematics applications. This acquisition strategically positions Aonix to expand its capabilities as a multilanguage supplier of mission-critical embedded software solutions.
“We welcome the opportunity to gain additional mission critical expertise in key markets we are targeting,” noted Nicholas Hadjidakis, president and CEO of Aonix. “Many of our customers who want maximum portability and access to already tested components are asking for real-time Java solutions. The acquisition of Newmonics’ PERC product line will enable our customers to quickly and safely move into real-time Java design and development.”
Aonix acquires all of the software assets and intellectual property rights associated with the PERC platform. PERC, the first Java offering to provide real-time control, strongly complements the full range of real-time software solutions Aonix is building. Aonix plans to integrate hard real-time support into the PERC family, enabling it to meet the needs of hard real-time and safety-critical applications. To ensure effective integration of the NewMonics’ technology, Aonix has incorporated all NewMonics’ employees into its organization and has appointed Kelvin Nilsen chief technology officer of Aonix, Tim Tumilty, vice president of North American sales and Randy Rorden, vice president of engineering, PERC development.
“With the military and aerospace communities moving towards a multiple-technologies approach, this acquisition strategically positions Aonix to more comprehensively serve those needs while expanding their reach into the broader mission- and safety-critical embedded market,” observed Kelvin Nilsen, founder of NewMonics and CTO of Aonix. “Open systems comprised of multiple technologies require Aonix to deliver solutions on whatever platforms are needed for a specific application. We look forward to integrating our development teams to maximize the real-time knowledge and expertise that we have gained in our respective markets.”
Aonix has a long record of successfully certified safety-critical applications based on its products and services. Both Aonix and NewMonics have actively participated in developing real-time Java specifications within the J-Consortium and the Open Group. These activities will continue as the acquisition strategically positions Aonix to more comprehensively address the needs of the real-time mission-critical space. Well known for its leadership in safety critical COTS products-primarily Ada-based-Aonix will now expand its offering to add multilanguage support to its suite of life-cycle mission-critical development tools, including UML and SA-RT modeling, MDA-based code generation, code coverage analysis and unit testing.
Aonix will continue to sell PERC solutions to communications, industrial automation, and telematics markets as well as pursuing new opportunities with the military, aerospace, railway, automotive and energy industries. NewMonics’ professional services team, known for its expertise in integrating legacy C and C++ code with new Java code, and the Aonix professional services team, skilled in safety and mission-critical solutions, will cross-train to maximize market and service opportunities throughout Europe and North America.
