Aonix Leads Use of Java Technologies in High Integrity Systems
Sep 28, 1999 - 21:07 PM
“With years of experience in this industry, Aonix is world-recognized for its leadership role in supporting the development of high integrity and safety critical systems,” said Kelvin Nilsen, technical committee chair of J Consortium and chief technical officer of Newmonics. “We are very pleased that Aonix considers the J Consortium’s real-time core to be an appropriate foundation upon which to build a high-integrity profile specification. And, we are excited to host their specification work within the J Consortium’s established consensus-based standards development organization.”
Brian Dobbing and Ed Falis, both principal members of the technical staff at Aonix, have been chosen to co-chair the new task group. Dobbing was a key developer of the RAVENscar Profile for high integrity systems and is chief architect of the Aonix RAVEN™ technology, which implements RAVENscar principles. The RAVENscar Profile is an emerging IEEE standard for high-integrity software. Falis is the chief engineer responsible for productization of RAVEN technologies for Intel architectures, and has been developing Aonix Java technologies for several years.
“Hard real-time and deeply-embedded applications are a vital part of the real-time/embedded application landscape, and it’s important for the use of Java technologies to penetrate the full spectrum of such applications,” said Wendy Fong, standards manager for Hewlett-Packard and chair of J Consortium. “We’re excited for Aonix to take a lead role in bringing their expertise to the J Consortium.”
Upon completion of the High Integrity Profile for J Consortium, Aonix anticipates adapting its RAVEN technology to the new profile to deliver real-time capabilities to Java developers, providing the proven fast execution, tiny footprint, and absolute behavioral predictability previously provided by RAVEN for other languages.
Anyone interested in joining either J Consortium or the High Integrity Profile Task Group can find membership information on the J Consortium web site: http://www.j-consortium.org.
