Atego’s Aonix ObjectAda honored with Editor’s Choice by Military Embedded Systems

Apr 15, 2010 - 08:00 AM

Atego, the leading independent supplier of industrial-grade, collaborative development tools for engineering complex, mission- and safety-critical architectures, systems, software and hardware, has announced that Aonix ObjectAda Real-Time® for Windows targeting Intel x86 architectures running Wind River’s VxWorks RTOS has been selected for the prestigious Editor's Choice award for the January/February edition of Military Embedded Systems.

"I never cease to be amazed at the continued investment in and availability of Ada products," said Chris A. Ciufo, OpenSystems Media, Group Editorial Director, Military & Aerospace Group. “When considering Editor’s Choice awards, new product innovation and game-changing technologies are important, and some might not consider Ada to necessarily fit those lofty criteria. However, Ada remains important to many military programs, both for legacy systems and upgrade initiatives. So, while glitz is often what drives media notice, products like Aonix ObjectAda® and new support for x86 targets on VxWorks are equally worthy of Editor’s Choice mention.”

The award of Editor’s Choice from Military Embedded Systems follows closely on the heels of the formation of Atego, a new and strong independent force in the mission- and safety-critical systems and software development tools market. Headquartered in San Diego CA, USA and Cheltenham, UK, Atego was created from the recent merger between Artisan Software Tools and Aonix. Artisan Software Tools distinguished itself as the world’s largest independent supplier of industrial-grade, collaborative modeling tools for complex, mission and safety-critical systems and software and Aonix as a leading supplier of critical systems development tools, virtual machines and services for real-time/embedded Java and Ada solutions.

“This award of Editor’s Choice for Aonix ObjectAda is vindication of the underlying business strategy for Atego of building a strong, broad-based, independent force in the mission- and safety-critical systems and software development tools market,” said James B. Gambrell, Executive Chairman at Atego. “It is also recognition of our leading position in and commitment to the Ada development tools market. With Aonix ObjectAda for VxWorks/Intel targets, Atego now provides Aonix ObjectAda products for the full spectrum of Wind River RTOS products.”

Aonix ObjectAda is an extensive family of native and cross development tools and runtime environments. Aonix ObjectAda Real-Time for Windows for VxWorks/Intel x86 targets consists of a fully compliant ACATS 2.5 Ada 95 compiler plus supporting tools. It is compatible with Wind River’s VxWorks environment, which comprises the VxWorks operating system and the VxWorks cross development toolset. Aonix ObjectAda for VxWorks leverages Wind River Workbench, an Eclipse-based development environment providing developers with access to the broad range of tools available through the Eclipse framework. Users also have the option to utilize Aonix ObjectAda’s standard graphical or command-line interface. The Aonix ObjectAda compilation system comprises an integrated language-sensitive editor, source-code browser, compiler with industry-leading compilation speed, debugger and full library manager.
